Warangal

Warangal is one of the 23 districts of Andhra Pradesh bounded by Karimnagar District to the north, Khammam District to the east and southeast, Nalgonda District to the southwest, and Medak District to the west. Warangal is well known for its granite quarries (notably the black and brown varieties) and as a market for rice, chillies, cotton, and tobacco.The city is also important from education point of view. There are good many numbers of educational institutions in the city to name few are National Institute of Technology (NIT), KMC, Warangal etc.

Warangal, once the capital of the Kakatiya Kingdom, is the fifth largest city of Andhra Pradesh. Warangal's History, with beautiful lakes, fine temples and rich fauna & flora have contributed to its importance as a Tourist Centre. The ancient name of Warangal was known to be Oruguallu or Omtikonda on account of huge boulder like hillock situated near the swayambhu Siva Temple and is also called "EKASILANAGARAM". In course of time, it was called as "Orugallu", and later known to be Warangal.

How to Reach
By Air : Hyderabad International Airport is about 3 ½ hours by road from Warangal city. This district has a small airport, Mamnoor, which could accommodate small aircraft like the ATR 42.
By Rail : The city has a major railway junction called Kazipet.
By Road : National highway NH 202 (Hyderabad - Bhupalapatnam) runs through the district. Warangal city is surrounded with small towns like Parkal, Narsampet, Torrur and Jangaon each 30-50 kilometers distant. Warangal is about 150 km distant by road from Hyderabad (capital of Andhra Pradesh).
