East Godavari

East Godavari is one of the 23 districts of Andhra Pradesh located in the North Coastal part of the state. It shares common boundaries with Visakhapatnam District and Orissa State in the North, Bay of Bengal in the east, West Godavari district in the west and Bay of Bengal in the South. The district head quarter is Kakinada, some 564 kms from Hyderabad.

The District is a residuary portion of the old Godavari District after West Godavari District was separated in 1925. As the name of the district conveys, East Godavari District is closely associated with the river Godavari, occupying a major portion of the delta area. The District is famous for its rice production and is known as rice bowl of Andhra Pradesh with lush paddy fields and coconut groves. You can find great natural sceneries at a small village know as Coringa and can also see world famous nurseries at Kadiapulanka.

The Historical temples are located at Ainavalli, Annavaram, Antharvedi, Appanapalli, Biccavolu, Dowleswaram, Draksharamam, G.Mamidada, Korukonda, Kotipalli, Mandapalli, Muramalla, Palivela, Pithapuram, Rajahmundry, Ryali, Samalkota, Sarpavaram, Tuni and vanapalli. All these temples have their own Stala Purana (History of the place).

How to Reach
The District is well connected by Rail and Road link. The National Highway connecting Chennai and Howrah passes through this district. The district is also having an Airport at Madhurapudi near Rajahmundry which is 65 Km's from district headquarters Kakinada and 15 Km's from Rajahmundry.
